WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • An Apgar score can be a quick way for caregivers to see how your baby is doing after he is born. Your infant is assessed after arrival at 1 minute and then again at five minutes. He`s assessed for A ppearance (skin color), P ulse (heartbeat ), G rimace (reflexes), A ctivity (muscle tone), along with ehw espirations (breathing). Each part of the evaluation is given a few to a score of 2 from a score of 0. The Apgar score is that the amount of these amounts.
  • Caregivers utilize the score to help guide them caring for the baby. Babies having a score of 7 to 10 in five minutes usually are given newborn care. The lower the score under 7 the higher the chance your baby is in"distress" or with troubles after arrival. Babies having a score greater than 5 have a higher probability of experiencing serious problems. Babies born before the due date or at a high altitude might possibly get less Apgar score. The Apgar score may maybe not tell you how long your child will grow and develop.
